Wet wipes or hand wipes are primarily used for personal hygiene, household cleaning and wiping down surfaces. It is important to note that there are many different types of wet wipes which range from day-to-day use to heavy-duty applications, each is separate depending on the chemicals added to the product.
Can You Use Hand Wipes on Your Face?
Hand wipes can in fact be used to keep your face sweat-free and refreshes your skin. Typically hand wipes are infused with a mild disinfectant like isopropyl alcohol which is safe on the skin. However, as a general rule of thumb, hand wipes are better at mopping up dirt or liquid and always make sure to read the product label to see if your wet wipes are safe for skin applications.
Do Wet Wipes Spread Germs?
The short answer is no. They use an array of chemicals to kill bacteria, viruses and other microbes in different ways. For example, wet wipes that contain alcohol are used to break down cell proteins whilst bleach causes oxidation in the cells, resulting in the elimination of the microbe.
Some wet wipes also contain soap that works by destroying fats in the cell walls and breaking them down. Instructions usually advise that each wipe should be used for a maximum of 5 swipes and that anything after should be discarded to reduce the spread of germs.
