Disinfectant Wipes vs Spray Cleaners: The Best Choice for Surfaces

There are many different cleaning supplies to choose from. However, the difference between them all might not be clear and you might not be using the right product. Disinfectant wipes and spray cleaners are a great way to keep surfaces clean, but which one should you choose?

What Are Disinfectant Wipes?

Disinfectant wipes are pre-soaked towelettes that reduce the amount of germs on high-touched areas. They are used to clean hard non-porous surfaces, such as tables and door handles.

Using disinfectant wipes are convenient to use, and can be used in your and your workplace. Since they are already pre-soaked, you reduce the need for any more cleaning products, and can quickly but efficiently clean areas.

Pros of Disinfectant Wipes

Disinfectant wipes, when used correctly, can kill 99.99% of germs, such as salmonella and ;isteria. Using them can have numerous benefits, including:

  • Convenience: They are ready to use straight out of the packet, meaning they can be used quickly when needed.
  • Portability: Disinfectant wipes are easy to move around due to being in containers. This means they can be used on the go in different locations. You can also keep some on every desk in your workspace, ensuring everyone can make use of them.
  • Versatility: Disinfectant wipes can be used on a number of different surfaces, such as countertops. As well as this, since you won’t have to spray anything, you can also use them to clean electrical items, such as keyboards and phones.

Consideration of Disinfectant Wipes

The main consideration you need to keep in mind when using disinfectant wipes is improper use. If you use the same wipe across multiple surfaces, it reduces the effectiveness of them. As well as this, you may cross-contaminate surfaces and spread germs around your home or workspace.

To avoid this, make sure you use a new wipe on each new surface. This will mean the disinfectant can effectively clean viruses. If you notice the disinfectant wipe has started to dry, you will need to discard it and get a new one.

What Are Spray Cleaners?

Spray cleaners, such as surface disinfectant spray, are liquid cleaning products. As the name suggests, they come in spray bottles that can be used to spray down surfaces.

They come diluted, so can be used straight away without any prep work. Once the spray has had time to sit on the surface, it will need to be wiped away with a cloth.

Similar to disinfectant wipes, spray cleaners can be used on non-porous surfaces in your home or workplace.

Pros of Spray Cleaners

  • Easy to use: Spray cleaners are easy to use. You simply just spray the cleaner onto the surface and wipe it away after the set time the product requires to work. Since it is a spray, it can be used to clean large and hard-to-reach areas as well.
  • Efficiency: Surface sprays should be added to your regular cleaning supplies. They can be applied quickly to surfaces and can efficiently clean any spills or mess that happen.
  • Food preparation: Some surface cleaners can be used to clean food preparation stations. Surface disinfectant sprays can help remove any grease or food residue as well as kill germs on surfaces. Ensure that the spray cleaner you buy is food-safe.

Consideration of Spray Cleaners

Similar to disinfect wipes, one of the main considerations to take when using a spray cleaner is whether you are using it correctly. Spray cleaners must be left on the surface for the set time (normally five minutes) to kill the bacteria.

As well as this, you will need to use a cloth to wipe the surface after using the spray. If you don’t use a clean cloth when doing this, you can re-contaminate the surface.

Which Should You Choose?

When it comes to buying disinfectant wipes or spray cleaner, it is important to consider the surfaces that you need clean. They are both great ways to keep surfaces clean and germ-free, but they do have some differences:

There is no set answer to which is better and your choice should depend on your cleaning needs. You may want to keep both in your cleaning supplies to make sure you have the right product at all times.
