Before Starting The Deep Clean

Before your deep clean begins, you will need to ensure that you have got all of your cleaning supplies ready. Searching for your supplies may be as frustrating as decluttering your kitchen. So, making sure your cleaning equipment is available to use will make the process much easier and less stressful. Below is a list of necessary supplies that you will require:

  • Microfibre cloths
  • Mop & bucket/Steam Floor Cleaner
  • Oven cleaner
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Antibacterial cleaner
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Sponges

After you have gathered all of your supplies together for the job ahead, you should initially start by clearing out the clutter. This will provide you with the room that you need to carry out an intense kitchen deep clean.

Start With Your Walls & Ceiling

Many people clean all of their appliances and surfaces then realise that the ceiling and walls are still dirty and then have to start over. Do not make this mistake with your kitchen. Make sure that you use a top-down approach by starting on your walls and ceiling to start with. These areas can become dirty with grease and grime if they are leftover time. You may also see a build-up of dust, so using a cleaning cloth to wipe down these surfaces. Alongside this, a mild cleaner will help you in making your walls look like new again.

Tackling Your Oven & Clearing Out Your Fridge

Tackling your oven may be a daunting task if you have not cleaned it in a good while. However, a good clean will bring new life back to your oven. Start by removing the shelves and spraying the inside of your oven and the doors with oven cleaner. Make sure your kitchen is well ventilated during this process and the cleaner will do the hard work for you. Leaving your windows open while cleaning the oven will ensure that you remove the overpowering smell from the oven cleaner from your kitchen. Do not forget about scrubbing your hobs down here as well. You can also remove hob plates and place them in your oven with the oven cleaner applied for good cleaning results. After you have done this, leave your oven for around 30 minutes to allow the cleaner to work in full effect.

While you are leaving your oven to clean, it is a good idea to get started on another main area of your kitchen here by cleaning out your fridge. Firstly, you should throw away any out of date food or unwanted items. Then empty your fridge so you can carry out a deep clean. Take out your fridge shelves and draws and wash them thoroughly to remove any dirt and odours. Then you will move on to the fridge itself, by wiping down the whole of the inside before. Follow the same process with your freezer before returning shelves and food into the fridge and freezer so they are completely clean. After completing this, you should return to your oven. Wipe and scrub away the top and insides of your oven until all the dirt and grease are removed. You can then wash down oven parts such as shelves and your hob plates. Finally, rinse and wipe down your oven with clean water.

Deep Cleaning Your Kitchen Appliances

This next step is to turn to your kitchen appliances. As it is safety first, start by unplugging all of your appliances. Then use your microfibre cloths and cleaner to wipe down your toaster, microwave and your kettle. For the microwave, you may have a longer process on your hands as you might need to use a mug of boiling water as the steam will help to clean fossilised spills. Also, remember to clean the microwave turntable at this point so it is completely clean. You may require a descaling agent for your kettle to ensure it is clear and clean on the inside.

Deep Cleaning Kitchen Cupboards and Surfaces

With your cupboards and surfaces, you are best to use the same approach as your fridge by emptying out all items first. You can then throw away any out of date or empty items. Once all of your products have been sorted out, wipe down all shelves with kitchen cleaner or soapy water so it is clean throughout. A good way to keep your cupboards more organised is to place any products from your cupboards in plastic containers. Your cupboards will then be more organised and will be easier to clean in future. After finishing your cupboards and you have returned all of the items, you will then be able to wipe down all of your kitchen surfaces. To do this use your microfibre cloths and disinfectant spray to give your surfaces that clean shine.

Clean The Dishwasher (If You Have One)

We know every kitchen will not have a dishwasher but if you do have one it is important not to disregard it in a kitchen deep clean. To do this you should run your dishwasher while it is empty, so it becomes clean on the inside. If your dishwasher contains a food trap, make sure you clean this out as well before you start running the wash. After you have finished this wipe down the outside of the dishwasher to ensure it is clean inside out.

Mopping/Steam Cleaning Floors

The final step to your kitchen deep clean is to mop or steam clean your floors. Now you have done the hardest parts of the cleaning process this stage will be simple to finish and will add that clean shine to your kitchen. Once you have completed this you can put your feet up knowing your kitchen is refreshed and organised.
