Summer is the perfect time to reflect, reset and rejuvenate your environment. Whether at home or at work, summer cleaning is an essential to improve mental health, state of mind and your everyday routine.
Cleaning should be part of your essential hygiene routine. As you take in the brighter days, warmer weather and lighter nights, we have a whole host of cleaning tips that will prepare you to see out summer in spotless fashion.
1. Create a Summer Cleaning Checklist
Creating a Summer Cleaning Checklist is the first step to rejuvenating your environment. We all want to refresh the little world around us,especially this time of the year. By creating a Summer Cleaning List, it makes life much easier as the reminders are mapped out.
Top Tips:
- Start with the difficult jobs first, that way as you make your way through the list you will enjoy it by the end.
- Mark it off as you go along for a sense of achievement and completion.
We recommend restocking all of your cleaning products to coincide with your summer cleaning list. That way, you know you have reliable products to hand to be your sidekick during your big summer clean.

2. Focus on High Traffic Areas
When summer house cleaning, it’s important to focus on high traffic areas. These are areas that attract more dust and debris than other areas. Entrance ways and doorways are notoriously ‘high-traffic’ areas because of the dirt that gets attracted by people walking in.
Skirting boards around entrance ways attract high levels of dust that settle on the surface. To combat this, use a microfibre cloth to remove the dust before cleaning with surface spray.
It may also be wise to disinfect high traffic areas to get rid of any outside bacteria. This will reset the area which will leave lasting effects throughout your home, for your health and hygiene.
3. Use Efficient Cleaning Hacks
When summer cleaning, it is imperative to have efficient cleaning hacks under your belt. Some are quite simple but easily forgotten about in everyday life. We have a couple of examples for you below:
Open your Windows
Over the summer, due to the humidity, insects and dust can get stuck in window latches. Pollen can also get stuck here which can contribute to Hayfever symptoms.
To combat this, open your windows. Once open, use a dry microfibre cloth to remove any debris from the bottom. Once removed, go over with a damp cloth and all purpose cleaner.
Don’t forget your Fans/Air Con Units
In the unpredictable UK weather, the majority of homes are prepared with fans or stand alone air con units. These are relieving, but can attract a lot of dust that gets stuck in the units.
Using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner, vacuum around the fan blades to get rid of any build up. For an air-con unit, use a long-handled dry brush to push any dust out and then wipe away with a dry microfibre cloth.
Microfibre Cloths for Dust Removal
As mentioned before, microfibre cloths are excellent at removing dust. Dry microfibre cloths pick up dust that sticks to surfaces without pushing it around or making it damp.
It acts as a duster, while also polishing the surface you are using it on. Since they are sturdy products, they can be washed and reused as opposed to disposable cleaning wipes which can make dust stick.
By keeping microfibre cloths around, you are doing yourself a favour in the long run. Not just for the summer.

4. Deep Clean Your Home
Deep cleaning parts of your home you often forget about will keep your mind at rest as you go about other parts of your daily routine. Part of your deep cleaning checklist might be:
- Disinfecting taps and sink areas
- Disinfecting ‘high touch points’ such as door handles
- Vacuuming under furniture
- Clean mirrors, glass surfaces and windows
- Appropriate waste disposal and cleaning of bins
- Sweeping and mopping hard floors
- Cleaning and vacuuming carpets
By deep cleaning your home, you will feel lighter, refreshed and more positive.
Deep cleaning steps do not have to be followed in any particular order. They can also be spread out across the week for those with busy schedules and commitments.
5. Maintain Outdoor Spaces
For the ultimate clean summer, we recommend maintaining your outdoor spaces.
Gardens, passageways and lawns can become overgrown, untidy and difficult when not kept on top of. Furniture can grow dusty in the heat and often needs regular maintenance to stay pristine.
To maintain your outdoor spaces you can:
- Brush down your patio.
- Wipe down all surfaces outdoors such as garden tables and chairs.
- Remove fallen leaves and weeds.
- Keep separate areas for gardening, relaxing and dining to prevent carryover.
